Cognac, France
Fanny Fougerat is located in the heart of the Cognac region, in an area known as the Borderies. This zone is in the north of Cognac, and is the smallest and most prestigious of the six cognac “crus”. All cognac must come from one of these crus, in order to receive the appellation. A beautiful, green region, dotted with old estates, castles, and vineyards, Cognac has been producing fine spirits for hundreds of years.
A Historic Purchase
This gorgeously aged “Vieux Cognac'' was originally distilled by Fanny Fougerat’s father over 20 years ago. He had stored it away in his family cellar to enjoy himself or sell during retirement. While it took a lot of convincing, Fanny was able to buy some of it from him to include in her own creation. Cèdre Blanc’s complexity is apparent from the first burst of aroma. Cognac lovers will be thrilled by its depth and sweetness, as it carries the consumer through a glorious array of fruit, pâtisserie, spice, and wood tones, before arriving at its rich, smooth finish.
An artistic, single cru cognac
XO Cèdre Blanc, or “White Cedar”, is made up of a single cru of Ugni Blanc grapes from the Fin Bois appellation, harvested in the year 2000. Double-distilled before being aged in French oak barrels, it doesn’t reveal the depths of its character immediately, passing from one note to the next with magnificent style. Due to its prominent woody and smoky notes, Cèdre Blanc is aptly named after the wood commonly used to make cigar boxes.
The Brains Behind It
Like father, like daughter
As the fourth generation of her family to distill cognac, Fanny Fougerat didn’t just take over the family business - she reinvented it. Her philosophy is to create single cru works of art, rather than blended creations. Using all the knowledge passed down to her through the family line, she created a line of cognacs that are stylish, artistic, and original, paying tribute to the land she grew up on and the vines that have grown there for generations.
