Flavour Intensity
Cognac, France
Fanny Fougerat is located in the heart of the Cognac region, in an area known as the Borderies. This zone is in the north of Cognac, and is the smallest and most prestigious of the six cognac “crus”. All cognacs must come from one of these crus, in order to receive the appellation. A beautiful, green region, dotted with old estates, castles, and vineyards, Cognac has been producing fine spirits for hundreds of years.
The lightness of youth
VSOP Petite Cigüe is a cheerful, young cognac, that translates to “Little Hemlock” in English. Fresh and fruity, it’s exceedingly easy on the palate. Its sweet, light-hearted character belies the complexity of its nature. Made up from 100% Ugni Blanc grapes from the Fins Bois area of Cognac and aged in new barrels, Petite Cigüe may be young, but it’s rooted in class.
Expressing the character of the grapes
Petite Cigüe doesn’t have the typical aroma palate of most classic cognacs. It veers into new territories, hitting notes of almond, apricots and vine flowers along the way. This stylish originality stems from the short aging process - the oak barrels used here are brand new, and don’t allow too many wood notes to seep into the spirit. No sugars or colouring agents are added to Petite Cigüe, meaning that all of this exquisite flavour comes directly from the grape.
The Brains Behind It
Like father, like daughter
As the fourth generation of her family to distill cognac, Fanny Fougerat didn’t just take over the family business - she reinvented it. Her philosophy is to create single cru works of art, rather than blended creations. Using all the knowledge passed down to her through the family line, she created a line of cognacs that are stylish, artistic, and original, paying tribute to the land she grew up on and the vines that have grown there for generations.
