Cognac, France
Fanny Fougerat is located in the heart of the Cognac region, in an area known as the Borderies. This zone is in the north of Cognac, and is the smallest and most prestigious of the six cognac “crus”. All cognac must come from one of these crus, in order to receive the appellation. A beautiful, green region, dotted with old estates, castles, and vineyards, Cognac has been producing fine spirits for hundreds of years.
The Power of Apollo
Laurier d’Apollon, meaning Apollo’s Laurel, is a powerful cognac named after the Greek God of art, knowledge, and manly beauty. Its rugged personality makes itself known from the nose, before you even get around to tasting it. It appeals to not only cognac aficionados, but also fans of whisky. The pure malt notes in the nose combine with oaky tones, giving this vigorous cognac a robust, brawny character.
Building Strength over Time
This cognac is made from 100% Ugni Blanc grapes, from the Petite Champagne area. After being distilled twice, its personality is built up during the intensive aging process. Laurier d’Apollon is first aged for eight months in new cognac barrels, allowing the flavour to mature and evolve without too much external influence. It is then transferred to old red oak barrels, where the wood imbues it with depth and character.
The Brains Behind It
Like father, like daughter
As the fourth generation of her family to distill cognac, Fanny Fougerat didn’t just take over the family business - she reinvented it. Her philosophy is to create single cru works of art, rather than blended creations. Using all the knowledge passed down to her through the family line, she created a line of cognacs that are stylish, artistic, and original, paying tribute to the land she grew up on and the vines that have grown there for generations.
