Auvergne, France
The Auvergne region of France is known for its natural hot springs and dormant volcanoes, with the black volcanic rock used for construction making cities like Clermont-Ferrand very visually striking. The vast forests and mountains of the area secure it as a paradise for anyone interested in hiking or skiing.
Taking a tip from granny
Gentian liqueurs have long been a staple of French grandmothers’ cocktail cabinets. La Jeannette is an updated version of these old classics, bringing a fresh, contemporary twist to the old eaux-de-vie whilst paying homage to the adored French mamies who love them. It combines nostalgia with innovation in a gloriously balanced package.
Everything grown on the doorstep
All the ingredients that go into La Jeannette are entirely natural, and locally sourced from the Auvergne region of France. The fresh and wild gentian roots are hand-picked in the Auvergne volcanoes, and all the other ingredients – vine peaches, lemongrass, peppermint – are grown nearby. The long maceration process allows all the flavours to evolve and mature, with no need for any artificial colours or flavouring.
The Brains Behind It
Four old friends
La Jeannette was invented by two Parisian couples - Elodie, Emmanuelle, Olivier, and Antoine. Out at dinner one night, with the wine flowing freely, they began wondering just why gentian liqueurs had fallen out of fashion. By the end of the meal, their decision had been made: they would revamp this old classic, and make their grandmothers proud.
