Flavour Intensity
Burgundy, France
The Domaine de Sathenay lies between Dijon and Beaune, in the heart of Burgundy. Beaune has long been known for the blackcurrant shrubs that grow there in abundance, and the modern-day crème de cassis first appeared in nearby Dijon in 1841. This beautiful, ancient region is renowned for its glorious wines. Green, peaceful, and packed with vineyards and medieval castles, Burgundy is an old fairytale brought to life.
Bottling the countryside
Looking to play with flavours and come up with new cocktail ingredients, the makers of Sathenay launched their first limited-edition cream liqueur – this gorgeously aromatic elderflower crème. Tiny white elderflowers populate the French countryside in abundance in the springtime, and their fresh, fragrant aroma is deliciously intoxicating. Sathenay decided to bottle that aroma in cream liqueur form.
Fresh, light florals
Sathenay uses more fresh ingredients per litre than most producers of crèmes, leading to liqueurs with deep, authentic flavour palates. The elderflowers present in Sathenay Crème de Fleur de Sureau are delicate, floral, and fresh, bringing a lightness and airiness to the sweet intensity of the crème alcoholic base.
The Brains Behind It
Searching for luxury
In 2013, Laurent and Pierre created a small wine and spirit distribution company named Diva. Their goal was to build a selection of luxury wines and spirits that wouldn’t be available to the public otherwise. Located in Burgundy, their wine list expanded quickly, and they started searching for a range of artisanal cream liqueurs to complement it. They ended up taking over Sathenay themselves, to have freedom to choose their own recipes and ensure an impeccable level of craft quality.
