The Origin Story

Sager & Wilde’s Michael Sager and Marcis Dzelzainis teamed up with the East London Liquor Company’s Alex Wolpert to form El Destilado. The brand’s goal is to seek out the most unusual, rare, small-batch luxury spirits in Latin America, hunting for spirits with unique means of production and fascinating stories behind them.
Travelling the continent
The trio spent time travelling across Latin America, visiting tiny producers in lost corners of the continent. They hope to create a collection of small-batch spirits that reflects the stories, legacies and lands of the drinks’ creators. The spirits they select normally would never leave their native villages, let alone South America - but El Destilado has succeeded in bringing these unusual jewels to Europe.
Rarity and uniqueness
From agave spirits made in tiny remote villages where only seven remaining people speak the native language, to sugar cane spirits made from wild natural ingredients in the “cloud forests” of Mexico, all the products offered by El Destilado are incredibly unique. The tiny batches mean that tasting these spirits is genuinely a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
The secret sauce
El Destilado’s ever-evolving collection of ephemeral alcohols is a testament to their love of uniqueness. By working directly with small producers across Latin America, they help to support these producers to continue their legacies - and bring their incredible stories and amazing products to a wider audience.
